Creating Lasting Positive Change

Which comes first: happiness or success?

You answer it every time your brain says,"I'll be happy when I get a promotion." Based on the findings in The Happiness Advantage: if you reverse the order of the formula, you end up with greater happiness and greater success rates. Happiness is an advantage, and the precursor to greater success.

You have to train your brain to be positive just like you work out your body. We not only need to work happy, we need to work at being happy. Try an experiment right now called the 21 Day Challenge.  Try the following for 21 days.

3 Gratitude’s – Write down 3 things you are grateful for each day.

Gratitude is one of the most powerful medications for alleviating depression and sadness in our lives.

Journaling – Write for 2 minutes a day describing one positive experience in the last 24 hours

This is a strategy to help transform you from a task-based thinker, to a meaning based thinker who scans the world for meaning instead of endless to-dos.

Exercise – At least 10 minutes

Preferentially I recommend having this be outside.  Being outside removes us from the enclosed, confined areas of our homes or buildings and puts our mindset in perspective as to how beautiful things are around us.

Meditation – Take time to reflect for 2 minutes

This will help you undo the negative effects of multitasking.

Random Acts of Kindness – Example: a quick thank you email

Random does not mean unplanned, but does mean that it is unexpected by the recipient.  sometimes it will even go unnoticed by the person who it is done for.  This is okay; it is not for their benefit but for yours.
